This year’s America250 Awards will recognize three categories of heroes: 9/11 Heroes, First Responders, and Community Champions.
9/11 Heroes are individuals who personally responded to the tragic events occurring on September 11, 2001 by exhibiting heroism in the face of unprecedented adversity. These survivors, regardless of duty, calling, or profession, selflessly acted on that historic day, or in the ensuing months that followed, to bring light into darkness and usher in unity, resiliency, and hope. Their example remains an inspiration to all Americans and embodies the heroic attributes of the American spirit.

First Responders are present-day heroes who answer the call in response to emergencies and tragic events. Their selfless acts bear resemblance to the American spirit visible on September 11, 2001. First responders include but are not limited to those in law enforcement, firefighters, emergency medical technicians, 911 dispatchers, and health care workers.

Community Champions are present-day heroes who embody the everyday courage of our country's extraordinary citizenry and have stepped up and taken heroic action for the betterment of their local community. Their selfless acts bear resemblance to the American spirit visible on September 11, 2001. These extraordinary individuals heroically rise to the call, regardless of profession or training, to bring unity, resiliency and hope to their local community.

While we honor and salute all those who have passed or lost their lives in service to their country and communities, we are only accepting submissions for living nominees.
